No Free Lunch

Nothing like a big economic shakedown in the free market to bring out the odd bedfellows. Notice how people like Mike Pence (very conservative Congressman) are agreeing with liberals that this bailout, as written, should not go forward.

Congress should be voting on it very soon. I hope it flops.

I'm getting some background in a book called "Free Lunch" by New York Times reporter David Cay Johnston. It has one of those subtitles: "How the Wealthiest Americans Enrich Themselves at Government Expense (and Stick You with the Bill) " Doesn't sound like I'm going to like the ending. Maybe they'll yet write a happy one.

I'm also reading a book on a happier subject – dogs. I love the mutts. It's called "Merle's Door" and it is about a free-thinking, free-ranging dog named Merle who comes and goes as he pleases.

I can't even do that. But I am learning much. The book is a nice mix of the author's projections about and communications with his dog, with some scientific tidbits. Makes me want to move to a place without fences.

Everybody have a happy Monday.
